Tinned Shrimps

can you still buy tinned shrimps?.
I nearly made a mistake and bought cat food because I am shopping on line

Which catfood did you nearly get .. when I lived in Manchester, many of the labourers at the factory ate Kittycat straight from the tin. They swore by it,
seemingly it was better than the rest !

Trolley.co.uk (which is usually a reliable source of info about what's stocked in major supermarkets) doesn't list any canned shrimps. Here's what's found by that site:

After you've removed the kids' sweets ('shrimps and bananas'?!!), cat food. soups, sauces (and even a Lego toy!) from the search results, you're basically left with chilled or frozen products. Sorry!

Most of the big supermarkets used to stock Princes Shrimps in Brine but they ceased doing so in 2016 due to concerns from environmentalists about the fishing techniques used by Princes, which were regarded as non-sustainable. The product is no longer listed on the Princes website.

yes I do like potted shrimps I have just bought those but they need to be eaten buy the date ,can,t just keep in the larder, the cat food was Encore in a tin.

I won't have any Prince's products in the house. Of all canned products they are the most inferior.

If labourers were eating cat food straight from the tin, they were most likely foreign workers, middle eastern or eastern European, I would guess. Many of them realise that pet food is almost as nutritious as human food.

All food sold for cats and dogs has to be legally rated as fit for human consumption. Because people will eat the strangest stuff in times of financial difficulty or food shortage. Like now. Although cat food is pretty bland: somebody once posted a comment somewhere that if cat food is unavailable, get baby food - it's a very similar kind of thing. So I thought I'd try it on my cat - bought her a squeezy bag of fish dinner with potato and veg, put it in her dish... and she turned her nose up at it! So I thought I'd taste it (...if it's fit for babies...) - and yes, it was disappointingly bland, didn't taste anything like fish at all! Or anything else, really.

Go figure.
