Cross Lining A Wall Prior To Wallpaper Hanging

Evening All,
Decorating a bedroom and have prepared one wall ready to be papered. I've been hanging paper for years and have cross lined many a wall but my dilemma is this - the new wallpaper is of the paste the wall variety. Do you think it would be ok to paste on top of the crosslining or would it be better to forget the crosslining ?? (The crosslining covers up a very "iffy" wall !!) Any hints/tips would be more than welcome. Many thanks

Do NOT paste the lining paper. I did once and ended up doing the job over again. Of course i had to replace the ruined paper and i lost out badly on the job.

The problem you have, fbg, is that 'paste the wall' paper is never pliable, so you will have great difficulty getting a regular butt-join. The best way to tackle the issue is to cross-line the wall, allow a couple of days to dry, then paste the 'paste the wall' paper as you normally would any other wallpaper. Do not allow any soaking time, though, simply apply the paper straight to the wall immediately after pasting.

If the wall is iffy then crosslining is the thing to do or you will regret it. I always paste the paper even if it says to paste the wall. Just make sure you get enough paste on it so that it doesn't dry out too quickly or the seems will pull apart.
