Suits And Funerals

I have a upcoming funeral that I will be attending but I am adamant that I don't want to wear a suit.
I'm very open to alternative suggestions. Maybe some nice trousers and a shirt would do?

I wore a black tartan skirt with a black leather jacket, black boots. The daughter of the deceased remarked how smart we looked. She was immaculate but half the congregation looked as if they had dressed to go shopping in Tesco. In my opinion, dressing smartly for a funeral is a sign of respect for the deceased and their family. A suit is not required to dress smartly but please don't wear cargo pants and a puffa jacket or worse still a hoodie!
How would you express respect for the deceased wearing shorts and flip flops to their funeral (unless asked to of course)? maybe I'm just old-fashioned but dressing smartly for a funeral shows respect. Thats just my opinion. When I die I'm not having one anyway, I'm getting cremated then going up in fireworks -and thats the truth its in my will and everyone can wear party clothes as appropriate.
