Old £20 Notes

Will a Post Office exchange a couple of old paper £20 notes for plastic ones without going through a bank account ?

Unsure, don’t see why not. I believe they have to be used soon as they’ll no longer be legal tender after September.

They might but asking a bank to change them would be better. They will always retain their value because of the 'I promise to pay the bearer'.

I've got a suspicion that the Post Office staff will mutter something about money laundering regulations and the consequent need for there to be a paper trail for all transactions.

That's what happened when I took some old pound coins into Barclays (whom I bank with) and simply wanted to change them for some new ones. I was told that I'd have to
(a) bag all of my coins up ;
(b) pay them into my account ; and then
(c) make a withdrawal.
I was there 40 minutes!

Chris, I could endure the mutterings but not sure about a 40 minute wait. I've only got 2x20s so hope to get a muttering and delay reduction.

Why not just spend them as usual, derek? They're legal tender until September this year.

yes - I have just transferred all my old notes to the plastic ones about 2 weeks ago. Because I said I believe these have to be changed by September. Well she said that's true but we will be still taking them after September so you should be ok.
