Dust, Crack And Smack Heads In Your City
32 Answers
Walking home, after work,
has become a game of running the gauntlet.
So many crackies and dusties etc....
All begging (or in a recent case trying to mug me)
Please tell me its not just Stoke....
I can look after myself but ive had my moments with these people to the point that I have
been scared. Seen women looking in their purses
for some loose change to get rid of these addicts.
I totally understand addictions and the path that they lead you down
But where are the police etc to monitor these situations?
Nowhere?
Do you have similar problem areas?

has me pass at least 4 cases per night.
(Sometimes more)
One night last week had me pass a
security guard on the bus station been goaded by someone (high as a kite) while waiting for an ambulance for an unconcious patient,
a few beggars in doorways,
a women off her head threatening violence to everyone in site,
and someone demanding that I give him a pound (I didnt)
Not a police officer in site.

Lower North St in Belfast is an area scheduled for redevelopment. In the meantime it's become a haunt for addicts. A young man was found dead from an overdose there a few weeks back.
Castle St , also in the city centre, used to be a hangout for alcoholics from nearby hostels. For the most part they'd have been middle aged or older men. These days there are a number of young men and women hanging about there. I'd guess they're drug addicts.
It's easy to sink into addiction. It's like walking on sand and suddenly stepping into a patch of quicksand. One minute you're ok and the next you're struggling for your life.

I've been seeing more groups in the city centre, though I've no idea what their drug of choice is. Only that there are more groups as opposed to individuals. Most of them look like old guys from back when I was working. I guess the young ones are out at night. I suspect what I'm seeing is booze related.
Croydon Town centre is busy during the day and I see loads of youngsters in large groups, homeless begging for money and buskers drowning each other out. But whether they are drugged up to the eyeballs or not I have no idea. I don't stick around long enough to look although every now and then I'll drop a coin or two into a cup, hat or guitar case.

Theres about 140000, so maybe 70000 on duty at anyone time.
Staffordshire has 1800 police so maybe 1000 at night I guess, so maybe a few hundred in Stoke
Thats alot of streets to cover.
Most towns have these people including some who stand at traffic lights asking you to wind down windows... not sure why there allowed but there too many to lock them all up unfortunatly

The Winner - There are four houses, one being unoccupied. We're in North Norfolk in a very small hamlet not far from a very small town!! The parish is one of the largest in Norfolk in terms of size comprised of us and two small villages miles apart from each other. 54 homes and less than 100 residences. Up the road about 1/4 mile is a small holiday complex of barns and three other houses. So not in a forest!!
The police in every town and city could spend their whole shift night after night arresting druggies off the street, some they do. But filling the cells every night is not the answer in the long run.
They are and do hit the bigger boys ( the supply lines) until we have an increase in police manpower it will continue to be an uphill battle along with other none drug related crime.
