Inappropriate or what? I think it's inappropriate to talk mention someone's body size. What happened was, I and another colleague were in the office and her manager said, "It's so warm in here" and my colleague said, "That's how we like it". Then he looked over at me and said, "Your so wafer thin that's why". It struck me dumb and I just went red and carried on with my work.
bhg is correct, treat all perceived insults as compliments.
To paraphrase William Shakespeare:-
"Some are born fat, some achieve fatness, and some have fatness thrust upon them". But they all desire to be thin.
Don't see anything particularly inappropriate in the remark - always have a quick riposte ready! As Youngmafbog indicated .. manager was probably only stating a fact re why you might feel the cold.
Stop staring at your belly button
if you can see it anyway that is!
thin people ( ectomorphs) feel the cold more
I was reproved 15 y ago, for telling someone they were fat and there was a penalty to that ( they get iller and die quicker) and oh god were the inappropriate accusations thrown in thick and fast.
But...obesity carried a mortality and you are not doing your patients a favour by being mimsy and precious
Thanks for BA, Treacle. I always feel that treating it as a compliment is a win-win; If it was meant as a compliment they succeeded, if it was meant as an insult they failed miserably.
