Is it me or are the sales not what they used to be? We have a brand new Next opened up in town and even on the first morning of the sale the clothes hung looking rather tired and no bargains jumped out at me.....thinking i would fare better in a city, i had a suprise when i returned from a shopping spree with only new season purchases and no bargains whatsoever! Please reassure me i have just be unfortunate this year.

'Tis true, bargains and Christmas sales are not what they used to be.

Sales often start before Christmas, so all the good stuff is gone, at sort-of reduced prices (some people go potty over a couple of quid off an item!).

I think also that prices are coming down so much that stores can't afford to drop prices much, even when they bulk buy (take George at Asda - 4 for a blouse!!).
I agree. I have always found the shops to be in a mess during the January sales. All different types and sizes of clothes are mixed together on rails and if you happen to see something you like you can't find it in your size. I'm sure they'd be much more successful if they kept the clothes separated as they were before rather than mixing them all up. All the nice clothes that were in the shops before also don't appear to be on the sales rails but have disappeared and all that is left is the dodgy items in random sizes. I don't have the patience to wade through all the rails. I'm waiting for the sales to clear and the new stock to come in before i venture back to the shops...!
Whenever I go shopping during the sales, I always find something I like that is not reduced! I have given up with the sales now, they don't even interest me any more. I heard on the radio the other day that if you want a bargain, go to an independent store not a large retailer with loads of outlets in every town. All the large retailers offering 50% off, can do so if they have sold the item at one of their stores for 28 days at the full price - it can be only one of their stores to make it legal, even in the Outer Hebrides - and they can then say then have sold it at full price. But 50% off is not a bargain - they are still making a large profit. And Next is just rubbish - obviously stuff brought in just for the sales - why do people queue? Apologies to anyone living in the Outer Hebrides, I am sure it is beautiful. :)
I bought a nice pair of leather shoes from next, 50 pds to 20pds, but yes I agree; if there are any bargains, then I can never find them in all the tangled mess. I wanted a pair of brown ankle boots some in Dot Perkins what a joke only 5quid knocked of, I want more than 5quid off if I am going to squeeze my feet into a pair of boots that dont fit well and will probably never wear!
