Lifespan Of A Fridge

My 22year old F&P fridge has just in the last week started freezing most of the liquids in the fridge section ie soft drinks and cold water containers and some of the foodstuffs ie salad veg.

Is it on the way out or worth trying to find someone to tinker with it - the thermostat is too far out of my reach for me to tinker....

Welcome to your new F&P freezer.

No harm in trying to fix it but it depends on what someone will charge to look at it. Depending on the quality of the fridge, after 22 years it may be worth it, or perhaps not.

Newer fridges are more efficient and better insulated so take the plunge rather than throw good mony after bad. Fridges are not particularly expensive these days unless you insist on a NEF or similar.

"What is the life expectancy of a Fisher and Paykel refrigerator?

But how long do Fisher & Paykel refrigerators last? On average, you can expect a Fisher & Paykel fridge to serve you well for about 10 to 20 years. The lifespan of this is influenced by various factors, such as consistent maintenance and optimal usage conditions."

Thanks everyone - I'm beginning to think it is on the way out, it's done excellent service and now I don't think I need one quite as big, being on my own.

Close the fridge door on a piece of paper.  If you can easily pull it out, the seals are gone.

This should be a cheap fix

We recently bought a Liebherr one and it works well.  Ours has a filter which needs changing every so often.  Never known that before on a fridge freezer.  I don't find that anything electrical these days lasts as long as they used to.

This happened to my Hotpoint fridge and I was told it was the thermostat that needed replacing and it wouldn't be cheap.

If you feel the fridge is too big for your needs, why don't you treat yourself to a new smaller one?

I agree with youngmafbog.

What is the filter for? Does it have a chilled water dispenser?

barry, it says it is for helping to keep the air fresh inside the fridge and disperse any bad smells.

Oh.  Cynical me thinks it is a way of getting regular money from its customers.  How much!  (£24.60) Never felt the need for that in a fridge.

Yes a bit expensive, but I will get them from Amazon as they are a bit cheaper there.  Never heard of them before we bought this one.

My you beaut aussie made Westinghouse fridge died after 28 years of service last year, after a few repairs.

So I wrote a short eulogy and consigned it to recycle.

Bought a Hisense fridge from Harvey Norman, Chinese brand.

Couldn't be happier, quiet as a church mouse, 100% frost free, can vary the temperature settings between freezer and fridge, can vary the air flow around the unit.

Smaller than our original fridge but has the same capacity and cost the same amount as I paid all those years ago.

But the best plus is I'm saving approx $400 a year on electricity.

PS: Our F&P washing machine didn't last long, 😪, but the same brand dishwasher is awesome.

Flipping heck! My 25 year old Bosch fridge has never frosted up, is silent and costs around £55 a year to run at today's daft prices.

I reckon if I lived in the UK I probably wouldn't need a fridge Baz🙄

How much do you spend per annum on home cooling systems?

Why? Wouldn't you put the heating on?

It costs me nowt to open doors and windows, that's my cooking system.

How have you saved that much money by changing your fridge? They are cheap to run

Very different climates Barry, possibly different power costs too.

Each to their own.
