i agree with your post it is annoying, but i don't think its just women.
i suppose women tend to have to root through their handbags, whereas men tend to have a wallet in their pocket, so i suppose its easier to reach.
i do think its more an old people thing
i think its often just absent mindedness
what annoys me more is when after the transaction, they have to go through a rigmarole of putting their card in to one part of their purse, receipt in another, cheque book elswhere, then into certain pockets of their bag etc etc instead of moving out of the way and finishing off at the end of the checkout. some even star putting their gloves on, hat etc etc!
As I already have said Joko, its your choice! (Manners and reading dont seem to be your strong point).
Its your choice to answer your phone when someone is serving you (rude), its your choice to ignore the person whos serving you when doing so (ignorant), your choice if you think and say i really couldn't care less if cashiers are irritated by me. (Charmless).
So therefore, by the same standard, its my choice (right or wrong) if I choose to say that I think youre rude, ignorant and charmless.
Im curious though, you demonstrate a remarkable level of seemingly unconscious hypocrisy, when you say,
how about all the rude, ignorant & charmless cashiers who don't utter a word to you, practically throw your stuff through the checkout & look at you like you've got 2 heads,
Odd that you think its alright for you to behave rudely, but get annoyed when your on the receiving end of similar treatment? Are you saying your better than everyone else? You deserve manners and respect but other people dont? or is it just cashiers you have a problem with?
I guess though, that even this simple comparison of your double standards will pass over your head.
Anyhow, gotta go, urgent phone call
steve - please learn to read.
i said it happened once and its not the end of the world - i did not at any point say it was okay to be rude to people. As i have said, again, if you will bother to read it properly, I don't believe for one minute that i was being rude. I had an important call and anyone listening in could have understood that, if anyone doesn't then i think it is them that is being rude.
it is indeed my choice, and as i said i DID NOT ignore the cashier - what about that statement can't you understand? - its written in plain english
neither did i say i get annoyed at cashiers - my whole point is that i don't care if they are rude to me - i don't lose sleep over it. the point i made was that it doesn't really matter...and how you have deduced from that, that i have a problem with cashiers is laughable!
cashiers are rude to people all the time and all day long and i, on one occasion answer the phone, while just standing there (this was a supermarket, lots of food going through so i was there for a while) and i am the baddie! - that was my point - and also that if something so important to me and so petty to the cashier offends them then yes, i don't give a toss if they are upset by it.
if you feel the need to invent things and put words in my mouth in order to make a point that say a lot about your level of articulation.
as druiatagh says this is off topic so lets agree to disagree because clearly this is going nowhere
If, by 'putting words in my mouth' you mean quoting exactly the text from your original post?
You are quite correct, I did.
If you now wish to back-track and change the emphasis, on your diatribe ('bitter critisism' - save you looking it up), and alter the meaning of your words, that too is your choice.
I feared (with some justification) that the hypocracy of your comments would escape you, clearly it has, along with any sense of irony at being rude and charmless. Yes, I can 'read', (obviously) I can also quote, even when the person being quoted wants to now claim its 'invented'!
Your quite correct too in that our view of what is 'Pathetic' is very different, so don't feel the need to keep on justifying yourself, I'm happy to agree that we disagree.
P.s. My articulation is fine, thanks for asking ;)
I used to work in JS on the checkouts whilst in 6th form. It did irritate me when people were on thier phones but I got over it.
In my current profession I would never choose the inconvenience of the person who is taking the time out of thier busy days to call me over the slight irritation of the checkout staff. No way. But I am very courtious and in no way arrogant - I just cannot justify rejecting certain calls.
steve - whatever - if you can't allow a person to see two sides to a story that up to you - and incidentally, i never once said 'bitter criticism' - if you can find it in my posts, then i'd like to see it!
you may be able to read but comprehension is clearly a problem if you cannot understand what i have tried to explain numerous times
well said pagey - that is exactly my point
I even go to the trouble of explaining what the word means to save you looking it up, and you still fail to understand.
And you criticise my comprehension???
Joko, its been fun, but its time for you to stop ranting and take a chill pill!
Rude boy.
here is a summary of what I said for all those who are finding it hard to read and understand - it really isn't rocket science.
Bullet pointed to assist your understanding.
1. As i said, I was NOT rude to the cashier, nor did I ignore them - i paused my call to respond to them
2. I don't believe taking an important phone call is rude so I am not a hypocrite
3. If cashiers and customers want to get offended by my important phonecall - then no, I don't care.
4 .I did NOT hold up the queue.
5. It happened ONCE
6. I am not rude to all cashiers, nor do I have a 'problem' with them - quite the opposite in fact, so I am allowed to get annoyed when they are rude to me
7. I believe it is rude for cashiers to get shirty with someone, simply for not putting their life on hold for them
8. I did not say it was ok to be rude to everyone
9. i know what diatribe means, which is why i figured you had read those words somewhere else and were trying again to put words into my mouth.
10. I ALWAYS say thankyou and goodbye to cashiers, shopkeepers and waiters etc. ALWAYS.
there, thats everything, if you still can't get it just forget i even spoke!
trying to be a smartarse doesn't suit you - you don't have the wit or intelligence - it just makes it clear that you have misunderstood the post.
I am not going to tell you all this again - its like talking to a child who refuses to concentrate, and focuses on only one aspect and ignores everything else said, no matter how many times you say it
apologies to druiathtagh for ruining his Q
peace
Also, the reason that checkout operators DON'T just pack the shopping instead of asking is because not everyone wants help with the packing. I hate it - it irritates the hell out of me when people start packing my shopping. I work for a supermarket and went into a rival supermarket where someone did my packing and I ended up with about 8 items in 5 different carrier bags! One bag contained only a 6-pack of bread rolls. What a bl**dy waste!!
I find it fascinating to read these threads from a customers point of view though.
People on their phones, it p*sses me off but I deal with it. Not everyone is on their phone so "big deal".
As for the folks waiting right till the end before paying, yeah from a checkout operators view it can be slightly annoying, more if you have a huge queue of customers, but it happens all the time - so "big deal". Learn to live with it.
otrere. - i know what you mean about packing! - tins on top of bread...bottle of pop on top of your tomatoes...
or buns, lettuce and sponge cake in one bag and then 7 tins in another! ...and fresh cakes upside down, cream everywhere... leaky washing powder boxes in with food... where will the madness end...;o)
I wonder do they get any kind of instruction in this when they start work?
I guess at 17 or so they wouldn't really have had much opportunity to learn the art of packing groceries in their lives, so perhaps some kind of list of do's and don'ts would be useful - I know when i was that age it would not have even occurred to me there was a 'technique'.
also they are often chatting to the person on the till while packing so maybe they just get distracted - who knows?
incidentally in my experience, most checkout staff i have come across are not especially polite and helpful - they ring your stuff up, tell you the amount, take your cash, give you your change etc, and serve someone else.
Some may smile a bit and say please and thank you but it is often very mechanical. Very repetitive job I suppose. As you say "big deal" as long as the job gets done, its no problem.
Some are very nice and chatty too of course, which is nice, but i would say this is a surprise when it happens
