Does anyone know where I can get some plastic or rubber covers for the tips of chisels? We have tried the usal and most likely stores but were met with a blank stare. It seems that nobody makes spare covers which can be purchased separately. In most cases, the tips are covered when they are bought new but a few are not and it is these which my husband wants keep covered as he always has them sharpened and read for use. Any ideas would be appreciated.

They are elusive ! I got some by buying some 'new' chisels from the pound shop (4 in a pack) - throwing the chisels away (apart from the one I use to prop open the shed door) and keeping the covers - they're not great but better than the cloth I was using!

Thanks Jon,in the absense of any more pearls of wisdom on the sunject,we will go along with your idea! Our pound shop was closed recently, but I'm sure we can find something similar in a discount store or the like.
Ive got a spare and inch if you want ! Theyre only plastic but do the job! E-mail me if you want them [email protected]
Have you thought of cutting off the fingers of rubber gloves, or something like that ??????
or even gardening gloves if you wanted something more sturdy ....

Many thanks to you both for taking the trouble to post suggestions. My husband is currently engaged in making covers for the most used ones ,but we felt sure you should be able to get spares from some DIY place or other but all you get is a blank stare if you ask for them!

As an aside, my husband went to B&Q the other day to get a replacement blade for the band saw,the assistant showed him an impressive hand saw and sevral others of a similar ilk!! but he had neve heard of a band saw;eventually,a female assistant came to the rescue as she knew what was required but alas, they don't keep them any more.Amazing isn't it.
