Heater for kitchen

I have central heating but no heating as such in the kitchen. It is quite small and I can put it under the breakfast bar, but can't decide whether to get a small oil filled one (would it give out much heat?) or one of those ceramic ones which I think might be quite expensive to keep on all the time. The convector heaters are all quite bit so wouldn't really fit. So I suppose my question is do those little oil filled ones give out a steady amount of heat, or are they a waste of time ????

I fitted an electric fan heater under the cupboards, it produces heat nearly instantly and a lot of it but when you switch it off it cools instantly, in a kitchen you would probably only need it on for a short time.

Oil filled radiaters take some time to produce heat.

If only in kithcen a short time then as Toureman says fit a fan heater, as by the time oil filled is giving heat to the area you would prob. be finished and gone. If you have Central heating you could put a kickspace fan convector in and let it tick away under thermostatic control !

lady-p-gold, If you have room for a small oil-filled heater, you have room for a small radiator. ( to determine the heat output required from the radiator, you should really work out the heat losses from the room ).A heating engineer would do this before adding the radiator to your system.

You would find that this is the most economical way to heat your kitchen, plus the fact that, should you ever come to sell the property, it could be advertised as " fully centrally heated ", providing all your other rooms are heated from your boiler.
