I've just started selling items on there, I think alot of money can be made if you have the time to spend listing it, I made about 200 in a couple of weeks selling some stuff I would probably otherwise chuck out.
There's no charge for joining Ebay. The listing fee applies whether you sell the item or not but the final valuation fee only applies if the item is sold. Its a small percentage of the selling price. Its a pretty good way of earning some extra cash as previously said, ive sold things i'd usually have thrown out. Youll notice variations in post and packaging prices and some people make most of their money this way so if you are going to sell, make sure you know postage costs for the weight of your item and also take into account the cost of the envelopes etc. You can then either undercut p&p prices offered by other sellers to encourage your item to sell or as most do inflate the postage cost to make more profit
Ebay is all about trust. Buyers and Sellers earn this trust by paying promptly and selling items that are well packaged, quickly delivered and are as advertised. They then get good feedback.
Before I started selling I bought about a dozen items so that I got a good feedback rating which would encourage my potential purchasers.
Then I made it as easy a possible to accept money using Paypal (where people can pay you through a credit card holding system) as well as cheques and money orders.
You need to take good photographs and make sure that you put your item in the best possible section and with the most eye-catching headline - remembering that people need to find you by putting obvious words into their search engine.
Best of luck with it. Heres a few things that I can pass on:
- Be accurate
- Be polite
- Be efficient
- Be fair
- Accept PayPal
- Buy 10 things first to get good feedback
- Leave feedback as soon as you can
One last tip, get as many key words into your title as you can because these are what people will use to search for items. i.e. if you are selling a pair of jeans, make your title something like "new levis mens jeans denim trousers" This will put your auction in front of anyone searching for any of those key words.
Best of luck
