I use a gel pack/bag which is made by Nexcare and you can get it in Boots and Superdrug for around a fiver. You can put it in the freezer and use time and time again for ice packs or you can pop it in the microwave and heat it up for a heat pack. You get a nice soft fabric pocket to put it in so it doesn't go directly on the skin.I find it really useful and I don't have to always have ice cubes in stock as I usually save them for my Baileys.
