Hi. I bought an old Belstaff waxed cotton jacket on ebay, and it stinks! It's not just the fabric inner lining that smells, but the actual waxed cotton too. The instructions say to hand-wash in cold water without detergents, but this did nothing to remove the smell. It also says not to dry-clean in order to preserve the oil/wax coating. Any ideas appreciated, Pat.

Pat - that is the proper Belstaff smell, I'm sure.

In my mad young days I loved my Belstaff - I always had elbow room in the pub.

Try hanging it out in the fresh air for a few days.

I can't see what else you can do - except sell it on eBay!

Hi Pat! My waxed coat got caught near a damp wall and developed mould! I decided to wash it in a non-biological,low temp.wash, cos,I couldn't wear it anyway! It came out all right. Not as good as it originally was from new,but I had nothing to lose! Btw,I tried all sorts to get rid of the smell, before i resorted to the machine wash!

You could try turning it inside-out, spraying it with anti-bacterial Febreze and hanging it outside.
