50th bristday ideas...

Hi, its my dads 50th birthday in about a months time, and i have no idea what to give him! So I was thinking of making something...something different, but relevant to how its his 50th and that its supposed to be a special one. Wasn't sure what category to put this under.. He doesnt have many hobbies, is a surveyor, likes cars I suppose, and he is obsessed with our barn in France at the moment, as he is renovating it practically on his own. But if you have any gift suggestions, that would help too, and also any possible celebration ideas (so far mum has organised a meal out with the family). Mum wants to do more because dads friends' (who is also turning 50 this month) wife has organised a murder mystery party and booked a ferrari for the day for him. Sorry its so long!

Greedyfly's suggestion is spot on, as your dad was born mid-fifties! You could get your mum to perhaps organise it in a barn (dance) venue, as you say your dad is doing one up in France lol.

How about a car model, with 50 engraved on it?
Or a nice pen, suitably engraved (he must do a lot of writing in his profession)?
