Symbol on Toothpaste

I noticed there is a symbol on the toothpaste. The symbol like a 'cap' and got a number and alphabet on it. sometime it is 12M sometime it is 10M. what this means?

this information gives how long the product can be used once it is opened so 12M means 12 months
It is on all sorts of cosmetics / toiletries now and as Jules says, is to show how long you can safely use it after opening. The ones I have seen have varied from 3M to 36M, obviously on different items!
The thing is with this is I cant remember when I opened bottles of shampoo or toothpaste

yes, sometime we just forget when we open that bottle. lol
I know, I asked this question a while back, Surely its easier to have a use by date.
I agree that a sell by date would be clearer, but surely no-one would have opened toothpaste or shampoo bottles for longer than 12 months anyway!
Gosh - I thought it was something to do with recycling the plastic - hw wrong can you be! Whats the poit in symbols if people dont know what they mean?
