The start with a normal small one, then gradually, over time, put in a larger one, slowly stretching it.....it isn't a big hole when it's started

Its actually painless as its a gradual process, i used to do it myself

makemesmile ... generally any hole ove 2 guage (6.5mm, i think) won't heal...

Firstly they put a cone shaped implement into the intitial hole and then gradually slide the cone further in so the whole gets wider and wider (some places may do it differently though). I used to be a body piercer for a while but was never tempted by that...it looks cool when the round thing's inserted into the stretched hole because you can see straight through the ear lobe! It wouldn't be good though if one day you decided you weren't into that stuff anymore and wanted to look more conservative as it would not heal up...and I agree with jenna 1978, it really does stink! How romatic if you wanted to whisper sweet nothings into someone's ear (and perhaps have a little nibble while you were at it!) and you could smell that sweating cheese oudour that piercings sometimes smell like!!! Nice! :)

my male boss has it done and although i can just about bear looking at it when the ring is in, when he takes it out it looks gross, all floppy and yuk! cannot see any point at all but each to their own i guess.
