I've just bought a pair of penny loafers - is it pennies (cents) or dimes that are put in the slot area?

Here in the U.S. it would be the one cent piece or "Penny"... a copper coin about an inch in diameter... preferably a Lincoln Head coin...
What slot? Where? I'm intrigued!

Well, in the front of the loafer there's a notch area where pennies are put (tradition in the states since the 40's) .
Thanks tingirl - I'll keep my eye out for that!
