Stains

Im doing Histology this semester. It's the study of tissues in a particular orientation. I have a project on stains, the history of stains. Not really kinda / types of stains. Its about the origin of stains. I cant really find much. A little help please?

One of the best books for research of this type is "Conn's Biological Stains" by RW Horrobin and JA Kierman. It's a standard reference work and the tenth edition is the most recent. My copy is published in the UK by Bios Scientific Publishers of Oxford.

Chapter two is devoted to the history of staining. I think you'll be more than happy with the contents of the chapter.

See if you can borrow a copy from your university library. Some large public libraries may also have a copy.

I've just been to fetch my copy of the "Conn" and realised that the full title is "Conn's Biological Stains. A Handbook of Dyes, Stains and Flurochromes for Use in Biology and Medicine" Published 2002. ISBN: 185996 009 5.

I've also just been on "Ingentaconnect" and typed dyes and stains into the search box ( This uni network server I've got at home has it's uses). There are a number of articles out of the 64 that appeared that you should find useful.

If you can't access Ingentaconnect at home via Athens/ezproxy, you should be able to do so at the uni. Access may depend on whether your institution subscribes to the works concerned on Ingentaconnect

Hey thanks for the info, but I cant seem to find a copy of the book in my country. I live in the caribbean, certain books r hard to find. Any other suggestions? Or maybe, I know this maybe alot to ask, could u give me the jist of the 2nd chapter on Conn's??pls?

Can't you get your library to obtain the book from another library, possibly from the USA? You should have some form of inter-library loan scheme operating somewhere.

Giving you the jist is virtually impossible. It's simply too much to condense on AB. Besides, I don't know what course your following or at what level, so I can't estimate how much of the data you require. Only you know how much work needs to be put into the project.

At the end of the day, you're going to have to get these resources from a library if you can't find a bookseller. Conn is not accessible free on the web as far as I'm aware.

I don't know how else to advise you.

Well, It's not on the internet, I think there may be a copy in of national univeristy campus. I'm trying to get ahold of it ty for the name of the book though.....

It seems to me very unfair that you've been set this project if you can't access reference works or research facilities. What are they expecting of you?

Conn is obviously not your only source but it is a standard work. You may be able to find more stuff if you're prepared to access a computer somewhere andspend time trawling the internet
