Hi...so here we are two months into a new school year and already my sons shirts have turnes 'off white' .....What do I do wrong? I wash only whites....I do a seperate 'white' wash for anything with a coloured trim. My machine is only 16 months old, I use a Colour Catcher in each wash as well as a whitener [sorry have run out and can't remember the name...bought it for white underwear....also gone grey!!!]. What can I do?

Please help.....

I only use surf, gets rid of everything and my whites are white.
Do you boil them????

I love doing a white wash (I know, sad cow) I only ever use ariel but also now and again put in some of that vanish for whites only - that really works and I boil the hell out of them!!!

My kids show cows and they have to wear white shirts and white jeans - cow poo and white does not mix well and sometimes I have to wash them about 6 times before they come up well
Perhaps you are using too many products in the wash and they are working against one another.Try ecover laundry bleach. It's brilliant .I like Daz for whites .Also a handful of washing soda chucked in the machine will help as it will keep your machine clean too and get rid of any scum build up especially if you live in a hard water area. .
I use oxi clean powder in with my usual washing powder (bold) for my white shirts and they come up lovely everytime. The sad fact is whites go grubby very quickly and I think they are the worst things for school and work - not servicable at all!!
Hi divegirl,

Forget all the modern stuff. Give them an old fashioned boil in soapy water, I guarantee that will work.

Hi Lisa,

My flatmate uses ordinary household bleach diluted down (it should say how much on the bottle) - put it ina bucket/basin and soak the shirts in it, then rinse in the washing machine.

Voila white clothes!
I use "glo-white" it comes in a blue packet. I also use those colour catchers. I use persil, fairy or bold podwer and fairy conditioner. No noticible greying with this combination - so far!
