Watch out for dangers on the old candles, they can cause fire as one of ours did one christmas. It had a decorative base at the bottom and during the course of the day it wasn't watched and later in the afternoon as the heat of the candle came down, the decoration caught fire whilst Mr ES was asleep and muggins was doing the washing up and it sent the decoration into the air with hot sparks coming down, one of which lodged itself under the sofa undetected and burnt the biggest hole in the carpet. Luckily we were around at this time but what would have happened if we had gone to bed?! So all keep safe and watch those candles. PS: Insurance refused to pay out, said it wasn't an accident!!!!! Ha

never leave a candle unattended would be better advice :-)
Thanks for reminding us of the dangers. We all know it's common sense but you need someone to remind you of things like this every now and then.
Eyeshade-why do you say "watch out for dangers of old candles"- what's the significance of old candles?? ALL candles are dangerous if you just leave them to their own devices while you do other things. They are also best left unlit if you're going to be boozing over christmas. Glad you're safe though and hope you manage to hide the burnt patch!

I wasn' t talking about "Old" as in ancient old candles, it was merely a figure of speach such as:
"how is the old girl"
