Faded Jeans...

My favourite jeans that were once a dark navy blue shade of denim, have faded with repeated washing. I would like to dye them back to their original colour but they have sewn-on patches. Does anyone know how I can dye them without the dye getting onto the patches?

If you don't mind sewing, you could always unpick the patches then stitch them back on when you're done?
