TV shopping channels

The auction TV channels - are they selling seconds or catalogue returns? One you have to bid for, the other you get at the lowest price - they decide this - it appears. Is the stuff worth the money?

we have shopped on both channels and most of what we bought has been well worth what we paid. We (and a friend of ours) have had serious difficulty in returning broken items and the returns period is short (14 days from receipt) I think they have too many of any item for it to be catalogue returns, more likely to be order over runs or cancelled orders.
