White plastic garden furniture.

Can white plastic garden furniture be cleaned?
I have four of the very original garden chairs on the market. They were not cheap but are strong and still in excellent condition, unlike the cheap chairs one can buy today. I am therefore loathe to get rid of them although I did take the table to the tip.
There are some dirty stains which even the pressure hose cannot remove and elbow grease doesn't seem to work either. Any ideas please?

This also helps to keep them white, rather than going a cream shade. However, if the damage is already done, neat Liquid Flash (I use the lemon one but assume they're all similar) can be very effective. Just pour a little on the dirty marks and leave for a few minutes before wiping off. Protect your hands first though as it can strip all the oil from your skin.
Thanks Wendy, guess I should have taken a little more care but I will give the neat Flash a try..
Will also try CUFC Parrot's special patio cleaner from Homebase. That sounds pretty good.
Thundercrack's suggestions sounds quite drastic but I'm going to give this a try if the others don't work. It must be OK if recommended for upvc windows.
If nothing works, the chairs going to the tip with the table!
Many thanks all. Will come back with results!
