I'm not sure that there is one... and if there is, it's rarely maintained. It's very touristy so they don't have a lot of choice over who does and doesn't go in. There's usually at least one doorman on each door, though, and if you tried to go in with bermuda shorts and no t-shirt, I'm sure they'd have a few words with you. If you're walking 'round London in it at this time of year, it's a safe bet that you'll be allowed into Harrod's wearing it!
I knew a person once who was kicked out for wearing ripped jeans. And this is when they were fashionable! However if you look like you're wearing a 400 pair of ripped jeans I'm sure they'd be A-OK with that!
Reckon if you are expensive-looking you will get in but equally if smartly dressed you can shop there too. Polish your shoes..... lol
I have seen the doormen ask people not to come in wearing bulky packpacks and to remove less bulky ones and carry then by their sides. The first is for safety as the shop gets very full and it would be easy to swipe someone behind you, the second is to safeguard your belongings against thieves.
ps I have never dressed up to shop there...onetime went in after having eaten roast chestnuts sold on the street and had to go straight to the loos to wash the charcoal off my hands and face...maybe they thought that I was rich and eccentric???
Jason Donovan was once banned from entering for wearing shorts, and Luke Goss for wearing ripped jeans. (They weremore famous at the time than they are now; don't think there's a causal link). All good publicity for the shop. There's also the alleged story of banning a woman who was 'too fat' and didn'tfit their image: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/39591.stm
Go to Selfridges; it's much better.
Harrods does have a dress code, but I am still trying to find it, sorry. By the way, rucksacks are to be carried by the hand or worn on the chest, to prevent stock being knocked over. Come on, this is harrods, making 4 mill a day...they don't want breakages...considering who the chairman is!
Harrods was my corner shop for about 5 years and I never had a problem.Used to wear allsorts and always used the rear entrance(next to food hall).Fortunately I was in Scotland when the bomb exploded and didn't find out there was a bomb until I returned.(No papers,no television)
