I purchase dog food specifically designed for my breed which is a mini-teckel and it contains glucosamine and chondroitin for joint problems. Something I also use, it is expensive, is Dog Gone Pain (DGP). I ran out a few days ago and I am already noticing he is limping in his right hip. He has had spinal and hip problems since birth and after four years I finally found something that works for him. I also used to give glucosamine doggie bones as supplements, but they must be very distasteful because mine will only eat them as a last resort. If you give pills, try the Pill Pockets. Mine dogs love them and have no idea the are getting medication. I agree that you should make sure the dosages of anything you use are based upon the size of your dog. If using human meds, try using a child's dose. I might just try the Flexi-Joints for my male, he is the pickiest eater so if he thinks it is a treat, he will gulp it down.
