My partner wishes to give up her pay as you go phone and go on to pay monthly, can she keep her existing number of she wishes to stay with the same provider?

She can keep her number even if she changes provider. I went from PAYG with Vodafone to a contract with Orange and kept the same number.

Tell whoever your new provider is that you want to keep your existing number. Then contact your existing provider and ask for your PAC number (Porting Authorisation Code), they are obliged to give you this. Give this number to your new provider and they will arrange for it to be transferred.

It took about 5 days for them to do mine but that was about 4 years ago, it may be quicker now.
