I have been trying to get a Wii from Tesco or Argos in time for Christmas. They both seem to be permanently out of stock. It is the same for all retailers?

I recall reading two days ago that Asda is getting regular deliveries.
try amazon.co.uk
There is a post in the Gaming section that says Argos have them in stock.
just bought one from a toy shop called SMYTHS
If the UK fails you, you could try Amazon Germany. A colleague recently ordered through their site (needed a little interpretation), paid just 5.00 for delivery and it arrived in four days! She was desperate to get her hands on one though!
Go online to TESCO Jersey branch and order it. Its a lot cheaper too (no tax!) - as are DVDs etc.
Argos had them on friday for home delivery. Google wii in stock and the first web site will tell you where has them and is updated every 60 seconds.
