amaze anyone else the amount of people that are coming on here asking what they should buy for people? I am amazed they are buying for these people who therefore should be quite close friends but they havent a clue about them. Do you ever get presents and open them and think 'you really dont know me at all' and can tell that they bought the present from their taste

i find it much easier to ask for a list of what theyd like and go from there. Unless of course its mum as she has similar taste to me, or Mr CRX as i have a good idea as what he'd like. I'll never forget the year she bought me the same top as i bought her. Such a shame she bought mine in a size too big!

No-one on here is really going to know what they would like. I find that if I dont know the person that well like secret santa at work then I ask other people that may know them to get an idea.
maybe they just want some ideas to start them off.

yer maybe for the girlfriend but the what can I get my mum questions?? come on how many years have they been your mother??
Good Morning $get,

It does seem a bit odd to ask people you don't know for ideas for Christmas - although I guess you could get some reasonable answers.

Like redcrx I always ask for a list, though I am still waiting for my sister to give me a list for her family, at this rate they will get what I give them lol

Oooh I'm seeing dollar signs :-) morning banjo
It is hard to find something to buy someone, especially when they seem to have everything. Here at work we keep asking we other "what are you buying your mum?"
"what are you getting the kids?" and copying their ideas!!

Most of the time we ask people at work for a list, would rather get something for them they actually wanted. I tend to have my mates boyfriends ask me what they can get them.

Dont get me wrong I like to give advice on here and helped someone yesterday I get people just need ideas. Just amazes me that they ask for mum or dad
Hey 4get,

Sorry having a bit of a moment on the keyboard!

My Dad is always really difficult to buy for, when I ask him what he wants he always says: without wanting to sound like Rockafella, there's nothing I actually need. So then I say, if you don't tell me what you want I will find something that you really don't want and you will have to keep it on display or I shall be offended!

Usually he ends up with a book, socks or a cd!

maybe just hearing other people's ideas can get you started off.

anyway i had a jared look alike come into the pub the other night, i made a right tit of myself and totally messed his order up, but wow he was hot!!!!!!!

I;m going to see the real thing :-)
During the year, I try and listen to what people say they'd like, and if they haven't got it by Christmas, then I'll get it for them. I think a surprise is often the best though, because even if you get something which isn't as expected - you can always palm it off onto someone else the following year!!!!
It's just another example of how some people on here can't think for themselves.
Last year my dad bought my mum some beautiful earrings. Unfortunately he had given her exactly the same earrings the previous year.

This year he has asked me what he should buy her ~ and I am pleased to help. I know he loves her to bits, gift buying just isn't his 'thing'.

I bought some perfume for my nan one year, it was very strong you know the kind you'd think an old woman would love. The next year when I was visiting her she said 'Oooh I've been cleaning out my drawers and thought you might like this perfume, someone bought it for me, not my cuppa tea at all, it stinks' :-)

LOL 4get.

That reminds me of the time I bought my aunt a hat for her daughter when she was born.

The following year I had a daughter, and my aunt gave me the hat saying someone had bought it for her and she didn't like it because it made her daughter look like Zig & Zag!
Actually I will be getting off scot free this year.

As I am no longer in contact with my mother in law I will not be receiving the usual cheap smellies from the pound shop.

You would think after 12 years she would know I have allergies.
