Black and white film processing?

Please can someone help me with the following for my colleague at work: He would like to know if it is possible to develop a regular, 35mm film, and have some of the picture in black and white, and some in colour?! I think he means, like a small area of the photo in colour, and the rest in black and white. I don't have a clue what he is talking about, but he assures me it can be done, but doesn't remember how this is done. Any ideas??

Not exactly a service you'd find on the high street. If you could find someone to do it, it would work out prohibitively expensive.

How about scanning and PhotoShop-ing? If you have access to a high-quality / high-res scanner, scan your colour prints (some work direct from negatives); PhotoShop the desired effects; and then get them printed. If you canfind someone that offers matt-finish prints, go for this option - the final print is so much more 'professional' looking than gloss-finish.

My wedding photographer, part of the elegante group affiliated to Kodak offers this service, but on the shots he takes himself. I imagine some form of digital trickery is involved, though he does use real film on site. If the film is undeveloped, why not visit a specialist photographer in his studio, rather than a spotty 16 yr old in the local Boots!
