Please just say 'No thank you'
12 Answers
I work in Homebase in my town and ive also worked in a few other retail stores. We HAVE to ask every customer if they would like extended warranty or replacement cover on their items. Some customers are so rude and cut you off right in the middle of your speal or come out with some smarmy remark. There is no need to treat shop workers like that, its not clever. We are in that shop all day when we are working and we are just doing our job!!! If we are caught not asking a customer we get disciplinary!!! So Please just say NO THANK YOU thats all you have to say!!

I know someone who works in Customer Services who says it wouldn't be a normal day if she didn't get insulted over the phone. The problem just seems to be that people don't know what manners mean. x

Yes of course you are doing as instructed, but can't you try to weave in a bit of non-scripted originality? I was asked in H Samuel if I wanted an extended warranty on a 12 watch!! I wasn't rude, but refused in such a way that led to blushes, a drink after work, and a bit of moist stuff after that.
Its not the assistants behind the counter you want to say that to its the managers!!! We are just doing what we are told to do!!! We get a b-o-ll-k--g if we dont ask every customer!!! Next time ask for the manager!!!!

I empathise with you and am always polite to salespeople.
Its those people who stop me in the middle of the town centre asking me if I want to buy sky/cable/insurance/gas/electricity etc that get on my nerves. I always say politely that I dont want to stop and talk to them, If I did I would stop and talk. But they are increasingly persistent and practiacally chase you!
Anyway, manners cost nothing and I agree that a simple no thank you should be sufficient.
