BT rip off, getting the internet for 6 months
11 Answers
I've just moved property and having paid BT 125 on my last property they're now asking for another 125 to reconnect this one. They are also asking for a 12month minimum contract (the old contract was in my old flat mates name) but i'm only expecting to stay in this property for 6 months and then i'm moving to another country. Is there anything i can do ? my adress is (address removed by editor)
thanks in advance

Call BT again, it used to be that to reconnect a line that had previously been in a property it only cost 10 or something, not 125 unless new cabling and lines had to be installed.
If youre only going to be there for 6 months do you really need a land line? can you get away with just a mobile?

You can take your contract with you when you move, any provider is going to tie you into a 12 month minimum contract so that's kinda tough.
The only problem with moving is that if you need BT to come out to your new place and install the hone line they will charge you another 125. Your contract is between BT and you, not the property s moving isn't a problem.
For future reference, I wouldn't put my address on a public internet forum, it's asking for problems

andrea - don't BT still have to install the line even if talk talk provide the service.
I get broadband for a fiver a month anyway but again still need a line through BT
as for putting my address online, it's already visible - it's on my front door! - really dont see the issue, none of you know who i am etc.
redcrx, they are claiming they have to have an engineer out hence the 125 charge, again i need the phone line for the internet not for phonecalls!
cakeboy - how can i take my contract with me to another country!

VirginMedia will be able to tell if your street is cabled.
Id give them a high rating Ive used their cable broadband for years and its very reliable. Fast too, though seems a bit slower at times of late ... theyre supposed to be upgrading soon where I am to give more speed. Only real problem I had was that it went down last year, and took them a month to fix it. The others are probably just as bad! Overall, Id definitely recommend them.
