Hounded for a debt I don't owe
Two weeks ago I had a letter from a collection agency demanding 67.46 for a Littlewoods debt. I remember some time in 1999-2000 having a catalogue and ordering about 80 of stuff that was paid weekly until 2002 when my Bank closed my account (I was unemployed and not working) I guess this must have been Littlewoods, (I really don't remember the catalogue that I ordered a one off from) but I worote and asked them for time to pay and actually sent a postal order for the total balance a few months later.
Its almost 6 years on and I don't have the postal order stub any more and neither do I have my letter that said "I enclose payment for full and final settlement"
I have never had statements, demands or letters or any correspondence anything since I paid up but last week I received a letter from Fredrickson International (debt collection services) demanding 67.46 for a Littlewoods unpaid debt. Today I have received a letter from them now demanding 132.83 for this debt (including court fees) what can I do? After years of silence I am being chased for an amount long since paid but I don't keep paperwork more than a few years and I cannot prove I paid this bill years ago. I am not paying 67.46 twice, let alone what they now tell me is 132.83 and they threaten to send bailiffs round.
Help!!

Stand firm and refuse to pay it but only communicate in writing (sending it recorded delivery) and start your letter with the words "No debt is acknowledged to you" and then explain that you want proof of the debt.
