Hello, my man and I are looking at wedding rings at the moment. We would both like a plain 4mm platinum band. However on most websites the 'for him' band is 100 more than the 'for her' band when they appear to be the same. We have checked and either can be made in any size so its not to do with men having bigger fingers. So does anyone know what the difference is? Or are the shops being cheeky and we could just order two from the bridal section?

could it be the weight of the platinum?

They are both described as being the same width and depth and of the same 'Platinum 950' metal - I assume this is the grade of platinum, therefore if they are both the same grade and same measurements i presume they would weigh the same? its very odd...
The man's wedding ring is wider than the ladies one,

My ring is 6mm wide and the wife's is 3mm, so that could well be the reason for the difference in price as that was what made mine cost an extra 100.

If you can find one you like from the bridal section, go for it. Weddings are expensive enough as it is - anything that cuts the cost is worth doing

Thanks cakeboy but as I stated in my question we are looking at identical width bands so that doesn't solve it
Check if the prices are the same in your local jewellers?

LOL I took the direct/rude approach and rang them up and asked them why they charged differently. Apparently it is because on average men have bigger fingers than women, so they apply a standardised pricing structure based on this premise. Therefore the small fingered amongst us are subsidising those with sausage fingers and the small fingered men in particular are keeping down the costs for thick fingered women - I told them I thought that was scandalous!!
