Penelope Pitsop requires lawn mower help

I am trying to cut the lawn for the first time ever (no it's not 15ft tall, my hubby usually does it) but I can't figure out how to work the lawn mower. Apparently I press the button, then pull the trigger handle down and it works. Well, I get this far but then when I have pushed it a couple of feet it cuts out and I don't know why. I have no idea what type of mower it is, it is yellow and black. I can wait til he gets in from work but thought I'd make the most of the sunshine. Anyone have any clue what I might be doing wrong? I've done it four times now and hfeel like a prize fool. I am sure the neighbours are sniggering as they have already done their grass today. Thanks :-)

Make sure the blades aren't set too low, as ours does that.

Zacsmaster you are flipping fabulous - it works now, although the grass is too long so I might have to consider squarebear's suggestion too as it keeps getting cloggy and tearing up chunks of earth.

Now, how to hieghten the blades without chopping my fingers off....

My husband is a gardener - do you thinkhe's going to be mad when he gets home and finds the lawn completely shredded? It began I thought I was doing a good thing, thought cutting the lawn to him would be like a busman's holiday....... LMAO..... whoooops!
