Is it just me or is there an increase in the number of urban foxes?

Last night I had, what can only be described as a pack of hoodie teenage foxes in my front garden, playing havoc, making lots of noise. I would say there were about five or six of them.

One was peeing up against the cherry tree and then proceeded to drag it's arse along our newly laid turf, whilst another sounded like it was trying to remove the wing of one of the cars. There was another jumping up and down on the boot of the car and yet another playing with a carton, it had found under the van.

There was so much noise, I banged on the window, but they just all looked at me and proceeded to have their teenage fun. In the end, I had to go outside and throw a bowl of water in their direction, which made them scarper.

We have an urban fox who strolls around like he owns the place!

Someone at the end of the road feeds him at around 7:00 p.m., so he is uaually around then. If a car approaches when he is crossing the road, he stares at it until it stops, then strolls across. Run? Get real!

I think he is rather cool, but my wife saw him peeing on one of her plants, and then scuffing up all the soil, so his name is mud with the present Mrs Hughes.
Aaaaaaaaaah, they've been weaned and exploring the world now. The bottom dragging is worms (itchy bum). They have no fear of man ................yet!
LOL velvetee, what a delightful post, it did make me laugh! Just wait until they discover alchopops.

I drove through Ruislip at six the other morning and there was a fox carrying a Sainsburys bag in it's mouth, it was just so comical. I presume it had a chock carcass or somethin in it ... but even so it's nonchalant trot back from 'the shops' gave me a giggle!
Hey!

We have a fox that can often be seen in the mornings just wandering round the office car park!
He will quite happily look at you, and then carry on his way!
Thanks for cheering me up folks.

My brother has a fox that visits his garden - not sure if it is the common fox or the hoddie fox.

:-)
I live in a very rural area and never see a fox. I quite envy anybody who lives in towns where they are far more visible and sociable. Foxes here in the country hide away!
Hey Lofty!

I always thought foxes would be round more in countryside areas. Guess I watched too much 'Animals of Farthing Wood' when I was younger!
PMSL :-)

There is definitely an increase in urban foxes Velvetee.
I have probably seen about two in thirty years, Wiggal, although I have seen dead ones at the side of the road (but not that many. The one I saw at close range was down a disused railway track in our nearby market TOWN!!

They have enough food here in the country to survive without coming into gardens or raiding dustbins!!
We have a fox that frequents our street and garden. I have a Westie and neither take any notice of each other for some reason.
Think we have claimed so much of their land, they just refuse to be moved on. lol
I believe they have become very brave in towns because they can get food so easily and people generally accept them and really quite like them. Most true country people (myself not included) just see them as vermin who take their chickens, etc. for food. Quite honestly though they don't do much harm in the country and there plenty of food for them around without thieving. Fox hunting is just an excuse for a jolly for the hunting brigade. It does virtually nothing to control foxes in the countryside (who really don't need controlling that much)
Sorry, not 'most' true country people - just some true country people.
My daughter works two nights a week and on these two nights she see's the same fox go in the direction of a fast food outlet, on her break she will see it again going back again. She said that only two people who she can trust know about the fox [ frightened that someone might kill it] This routine has been going on for about two years now, so good luck to him/her.As yet no others have been with it .g

That is good to hear that your daughter will not trust everyone to know about the fox.
We have a fox, rabbits, hedgehogs squirrels and all sorts of bird life around our house. I love it.
People complain about the rabbits eating their plants. Well, I don't care if they eat mine. They can always be replaced.
Good on you Cruella. I feel just the same. Anyway, as much as I love my plants, I love rabbits better! I actively encourage all wildlife and I also don't mind moles. My neighbours absolutely hate my attitude. They shoot anything that moves in their precious manicured garden.
Garner, I am sitting here imagining a fox going into a drive through McDonalds and asking for a double cheeseburger and french fries.

Ha ha
