Hi,
Am off to New York next month. In light of the exchange rate, I'm hoping to take the opportunity to stock up the wardrobe.
I'm going to visit the Woodbury Common Outlet mall but does anyone have any suggestions on either specific shops that are worth a visit or certain areas of the city that are good for clothes and shoes.
Your thoughts and experiences would be much appreciated.

Century 21 department store-its downtown-you get off the number 1 subway line at Rector street and its a couple of streets away beside Ground Zero. Its amazing for handbags as it has got all the big labels but at discount prices! I got a Guess handbag for $55! Its a bit like Primark on a Saturday though-eg crowded, but if you can push your way through the crowds, you're sure to find a bargain! - www.c21stores.com
Also, around Macy's at 34th street there are some good shops like Gap, American Eagle, Forever 21. Macy's itself is good for clothes and shoes as well.
Have fun-and take a big suitcase!

Ive never been to the USA and don't wish to but I know that clothes there are at bargain prices compared to the UK. One tip I was given : someone once travelled there with very little clothing in his/her luggage as it was his intention to buy new clothes and bring them back. The immigration officials there refused him entry because he didn't have enough clothes for the length of vacation indicated. So try taking some old clothes with you that you don't mind throwing away.
I went in Century 21 and quite a bit of stuff in there. Very grotty building right down by ground zero.
5th Avenue is good for high end shops, loads of H&M everywhere.
Fashion district for beads and other other fashion items.
Some good bargains in Macys (bit more like Debenhams whereas Bloomingdales - off 5th at the Central Park end) is more like Selfridges).
Soho also has a load of clothing stores. Chinatown for cheap knockoffs.
Street vendors round Time Sq and Fifth Ave for very cheap knock off designer bags, watches and pashminas (usually about $5 each).
There is FAO Shwatz for anything for kids and an Apple store right at the top of 5th as you hit Central Park.
If you get Engteach's attention she may be able to help with more suggestions as she lives there.
