I want to buy something a bit fancy, but moderately small and light (I have to post it) I'm just wondering what we're traditional gifts in days gone by, or just something nice rather than practical really.
Gifts are a minefield. If they have previously owned a home then they'll probably have everything they need. If it is something for the house then they may hate it and feel obliged to use it. I would suggest the following three options:
1. Something they can eat like a small gift hamper, there are online cheese merchants worth a go.
2. An ornamental candle - if they don't like it they can burn it.
3. Vouchers so they can buy something they do like.
With all three of the above they aren't stuck with something they don't like.
Thanks, her dad's really into cooking so I'm just gonna buy a garlic press, a chopping block with a curvey knife thingy.
I'm also gonna send a tin of Fray Bentos stewed steak and a tin of corned beef cos they love it and they can't buy it there.
