how to work baby monitor!
9 Answers
Sorry to be so thick - dinosaur granny. Have just bought a Fisher Price Acquarium baby monitor.off ebay. Can't get the projector to work and can't get to hear any sound through the bit the parents have (receiver) from the main part which goes by babty None of the lights on the receiver light up when there is a noise.Have tried every combination of dials and buttons. and have tried revolving the projector housing which holds the projector light. The sea-sounds work, the music works - power lights are on on both pieces (although the receiver seems a bit dim) Regretably don't have the instructions. Batteries in receiver look new. Obviously the important bit is to be able to hear baby. Any help most welcome. Thank you

If the batteries are rather low, there might be a sufficient voltage for one function to work but not for the other. Poundland will sell you 6 AA alkaline batteries for a quid, so it's not going to cost a fortune to put a new set in. (Each unit takes 3 AA batteries. If there's not a Poundland store near to you, Wilkinsons also sell AA alkaline batteries, under their own brand name very cheaply. Make sure you get alkaline batteries; zinc chloride ones will go flat almost as soon as you put them in).
Once you've got a new set of batteries in, you should quickly be able to find out (by trial & error) whether everything is working as it should. If it is, 'baby sounds' should switch on the projector unit rather than lighting anything up on the receiver (although, obviously, those same baby sounds should be heard through the receiver). That's based upon reading the product description, here:

Batteries don't last long in devices designed for transmitting radio signals. They also go flat quite quickly if left in unused devices for many months. So it's quite likely that your problem is simply related to old, tired batteries. If not, it's time to complain to the vendor and/or to eBay.

I changed the batteries and got the receiver working fine -the light come on when any noise gets picked up by the monitor. Think the sound effects are a bit naff but they do work (am shipping this out to my son in South Africa -he lives by the sea in the Eastern Cape so can just open the window if he wants wave sounds!) Not sure what the green button on the front is for and the lower switch next to the aerial doesn't seem to do anything. It has an ear display so would have thought it was volume but nothing seems to happen when I turn it. The projector completely defeats me. Have email the seller and await his/her reply. Happy New Year and thanks so much for your interest.
Happy New Year :-)
I had one of these for my younger daughter http://www.ciao.co.uk/Fisher_Price_Ocean_Wonde rs_Aquarium__5812545
It ran batteries down in hours ad the sound effects were naff as well, but the effects she could watch kept her mesmerised for as long as the batteries worked lol
Wait and see what your seller has to say, but if you cant get it working properly with the manual then I would think something was wrong with it and you will be able to return it for a refund although you will need to pay for return postage - if your seller is a good one then they will refund all postage as soon as they have the item back in their hands. If they are a business seller they should, under the DSR rules, refund your return postage anyway.
If you need to make a claim via PP, it must be returned by recorded delivery
Best of Luck

thanks Pink-kittens - glad we agree on the naff ocean sounds. Have to be honest and am not too bothered about the all singing all dancing sound/sight effect s although it would obviously be a bonus to have these. What I'm interested in is my son/d-i-l being able to hear baby when she cries. How did you find this -I've tried it out and it seems to work fine. Am in touch with the vendor and she is doing everything possible to get me some instructions -really don't think I have a problem there. Just got back from a very boozy New Years Day lunch - horses to sort out and collie dogs to walk! Go well.
