Depends on whether you have carpet or hard flooring. You need an upright for carpet (with rotating bristles to bring up pile) and a cylinder for hard flooring. 'Which' magazine is good for independent advice. I rate the Miele cylinder for hard flooring. I also have a gorgeous pink Numatic (Hetty) which does an excellent job.
