Personally, praying for the demise of Tesco's- detest them with a passion as do numerous people I know or meet, too. They have such a monopoly/tescopoly + their fruit + veg are really poor in quality + more expensive than many other places + they try to take over every town in Britain- just look at Glasgow for instance + they are one of the least ethical supermarkets.
Locally, can be cheaper than buying items in supermarkets at times. Asda + Morrisons are supposedly good value, too! Boots can be cheaper on some items. To save money in your purse it pays to compare prices online + talk to other friends before shopping.
Good luck, Beatrice :-)

I only recently started going to ALDI....my cat actually likes their catfood-19p for the foil trays. I have found their smoked and hot-smoked salmon to be very good as are their frozen sausages. I have also found some good deals on latte, hot chocolate (Options) and booze.
I always check out the pound shop....Simple roll-on deoderant, Tetley tea-bags and Malteasers are my latest finds.
As Beatrice says-you have to shop around. I dont have a nearby ASDA or Morrisons...so I tend to use Sainsbury's.....and SOMETIMES venture into the Tesco Metro in town.

I never skimp on food, so I would never use a shop merely on the basis of prices. I use the Co-op mainly, but that's because it's the only supermarket near where I work.
Lidl I use only rarely because the queues are always horrendous.
Often I will go to a shop because of something specific they stock - e.g. Tesco, Waitrose, and Morrisons are the only ones that have Britvic Tomato Juice cocktail (the very best).

Agree with pastafreak ;-) :-) Gormless mentioned my favourite supermarket, too- Waitrose :-)
Like the Co-Op as most ethical a supermarket of them all + highly favoured by Heaven ;-) methinks yet mostly shop at Sainsbury's as our town has a tiny Co-Op - not enough range. Cannot afford to shop at Waitrose at present yet if could would divide it between Waitrose, Co-Op + buying locally :-) all the time! Would also recommend entering competitions to win grocery shopping at supermarkets- some online, free to enter+ some in puzzle books.
Good luck smurfchops :-)

We have a really good farm shop near us so tend to buy veggies and fruit in there eggs etc.
I'm a big fan of the co op and our local Budgens is great and also Aldi. Very rarely go elsewhere as I find the larger the shop the more time I spend in there and the more I buy. Saying that I will sometimes go for a mooch around Asda and Morrisons but not every week in fact not every month even.
Sometimes the 99p type shops aren't that cheap when others are doing buy one get one free so you have to be careful.
We have a group at Toddlers where we get together and swap kiddies clothes they've outgrown and we are just starting a ladies one, to include accessories as well

As Mrs. Scylax is disabled, I usually do the weekly shopping.
Lidl gets my vote for almost everything, but
Aldi is great for biscuits, sweets and some
German meat products.
Once in a blue-moon I go to Morrison's for
odds and ends, esp. pipe tobacco !
Asda is OK too, but find it difficult to locate what I want, as the sign-boards are printed in pale green on a white background; these are impossible to read against the glaring overhead neon lights. I usually walk out in frustration.
Tesco is a no-go area for me, and Waitrose
is about 100 miles away.
