National insurance payment
11 Answers
Hi. I'm trying to make a national insurance payment using HSBC online banking. I have to select a payee from their list but it is endless! I don't know which one I should select. The whole list is a bit long to type but I'm guessing it's one out of two of them which are:
HMRC NIC DEF and HMRC NIC QUARTERLY
These are the only two with NIC in so I guess it must be one. I haven't got a clue what the abbreviations are.
Does anyone here know and does anyone else pay through HSBC?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It will be easier to ask whoever wants the money (HMRC?) for a sort code and account number. If they have asked you for the money I'm sure they would have told you these details on the form/letter. Then just set the payment up yourself on the HSB internet banking

Thanks for your answers. I have the sort code and account number but I think HSBC insist that you pay through their list of payees if they are on the list. I'll ring HMRC helpline (I'm phoning that a lot lately!) and see what they say. That lady does seem to have the same query as me in that link. Maybe it is quarterly. I'll give them a ring to check anyway.
Thanks for your help!
