I buy a couple of bottles of wine from tesco, and quite often im served by a very nice lady, who is of a different religion from myself. she refuses to even touch the bottle and I have to pass it over the scanner myself. i respect her religion, that she probably does not / cannot consume alcohol, but is it really necessary that she refuses to touch the glass bottle to put it through the checkout? I find it a little extreme. what are your thoughts?I don't mind, but she is there to do a job surely?

How would she serve a disabled person, say in a wheelchair? That person wouldn't be able to scan the bottle him/herself.

I don't think any religion forbids touching glass or bottles, whatever the contents. Any idea of her religion?
I think touching the bottle is much the same as carrying it to someone to drink, so it would be banned under her religion. However if this lady was a strict muslim she surely wouldn't be working in a supermarket where she would come into contact with males not related to her.

I'm surprised the supermarket employed her if she told them she wouldn't touch bottles of alcohol
We don't know that this lady is Muslim, but if she is, she is breaking Islamic law because she is earning from the sale of alcohol, which is as prohibited as serving it.

Pull the other one!
What if you buy pork chops, do you have to scan that too?

They should`ve asked her this on her interview and not given her the job....religion has no place in our society

elvis............I'm a christian but would scan your pork chops anyday................
Thanks craft... I`ve just sprayed beer over my screen reading that!
She shouldn't have been given the job! There are many others who would happily put your bottles of plonk through the checkout! You're practically self serving, her role is redundant.
Demand to be served by someone who does the job properly.

Ethel - thought you were barred; why else would you use Fay Mousse?
whats the problem ?

you get it

point is
why keep going to her checkout if it bothers you ?

lot of crap if you ask me.

and by posting here

you did

CHECKOUT OPERATOR OF 16 OR 17 CANT SELLL ALCOHOL UNSUPERVISED
SHOULD THEY BE SACKED

YAWNNNNNNNNNNNN

tambo exactly
are we to believe this is the only woman at the checkouts ?

if its a problem why return to her?

It was a temporary thing, tamborine, due to the site's technical problems the other day.
I once worked with a Mormon woman, who also refused to sell booze, or cigarettes, and would call me to serve them.
I totally agree that if the person has a problem serving what they term "offensive items" they should not be working there.
My workmate also refused to work Sundays, and the rest of the staff suffered because of it, forcing us to share extra Sunday shifts that should have been worked by her.
