Purchasing in UK - Goods come from Abroad - The Law?
Hi There,
I purchased some flyers from a uk based company (all their correspondence is the uk).
When they arrived, they were completely wrong from the proof they had been provided with - so, I naturally phoned up to complain.
They asked me to send samples etc - so i did, special delivery - and of course, they said they never received them - So I then had to remind them it was special delivery and then they backed down and agreed they had gotten them.
They have promised to call me back on several occasions and never had - and once digging a little deeper, they then told me that their company is based in germany - and all their correspondence is forwarded on there - hence the delays.
This was never told to me and is not on their website - they told me they don't advertise this fact, and give a UK address so customers don't have to pay to send correspondence to Germany.
I advised i would never have done business with them - had i known this.
Bottom line is, its been nearly 2 weeks and im no further forward, I cant expand my business as i was relying on having these flyers - and it is now costing me money.
If I go to trading standards, is there any case for the fact that their business is not based in the UK but indeed Germany and this was not obvious to me, or told to me before conducting business with this "UK" company?

You must have had some paperwork - what information is there about the law? Very often the contract will clearly state that UK laws apply, or Germany's, for example, where the parties to the contract are in different countries.
