Reducing a carpet in size

I recently purchased a large Persian carpet 22'x 12' at a pretty reasonable price. I would like to reduce the size to 18'x12' to fit a specific room. Is this the type of work which can normally be undertaken by someone skilled in this work.

Thanks
John

If the carpet is really good quality and cutting it would ruin the design and therefore reusabilty, why not instead get a fitter to fold it, putting underfelt where the folded bits stop, if you get my meaning.
