tesco car insurance beware!!!!!!!
Just to let you people know about the con that is called Tesco Car insurance, went onto a compare web site and got a good quote for Insurance from Tesco and a Free pressure washer or so i thought, called Tesco direct to be told as i had got the quote off the Compare site i would have to take out the policy through the Compare site and i would not be entitled to the pressure washer so beware if you want to use Tesco insurance and get a free pressure washer go direct to Tesco and not a compare site

I was also interested in this offer after seeing it advertised on the site http://www.tesco-carinsurance.co.uk
However tesco told me this was a compare site and that i would not get the washer unless i went direct with tesco, but then when i did the quote was completely different.
Totally confusing, so im still not sure if i will get the pressure washer!!!!
Hi devcfc,
You got the same response as what i did and when i enquired about the Washer i was told i would not get it as i had made the initial enquiry through the Compare sitei i had to buy the Insurance through the compare site,so i lost a Pressure Washer and Tesco lost a customer, went to Direct Line in the end and was quoted 39.40 cheaper so that was ok with me,also found the calltaker not the most helpful person in the world, every question i asked the reply was "you got the quote through the Compare site"so i gave up,please let me know if you get the Washer and has anyone found a online complaints link to Tesco or is it they get that many complaints they have closed it !!!!!!!!

i don't really understand what the problem is - if you want the quote that the comparison website gave you, of course you have to get it from them. They are a totally seperate business and can afford to give lower quotes because of advertising revenue i expect. as you are not going to tesco directly, you can't expect to get any of their promotions either. This seems like common sense rather than con to me
Hi, i work for UKI, we underwrite Tesco car insurance. let me explain....
The reason the premiums are different on the comparison site is quite simple. We will pay gocompare.com or confused.com a referral fee for every customer we get through their website. the reason we use them? Brand power. their advertising budget means our brand reaches far more people than our own attempts.
lets say you get a quote on gocompare & it's £400 & we pay them a referral fee of £50. Whislt it searches the insurers for the best price, gocompare will also be searching confised, moneysupermarket....all of them.
Now, if they have a premium which is £400 with a £50 ref fee & confused offers it for £380, gocompare will reduce the prem by £30 to beat them & only pocket a £20 referral fee. Sometimes, being the most popular compare site is half the battle won so they are prepared to take a hit on their own profit.
Now, for your policy which we have got through go compare, we've already lost £50, we are not gonna chuck in a pressure washer as well. That's why it's only ever available through tesco.com. i appreciate that you might feel a little aggreived, but after dealing with policy holders for 2 years, its' quite clear that people DO NOT read the terms & conditions at all.
