I have a 9ct gold ring c.1962, set with stones that are probably of very little value. I say 1962 - the assay mark is a sort of italic N, and in the hallmarking council's booklet that indicates Birmingham 1962 - which is about right given family history. The assay mark looks a little like a circle with four compass points sticking out of it, but it's scratched so it could be the omega sign that represents an imported piece. However, if it's imported, everything I've read on the net indicates that the 375 mark should have a 9 in front of it, and also that it was assayed in London.
Does anyone know enough to throw any light on where this piece originates.
Also, the maker's mark is PST. Any idea who this is/was?
Thanks for that, Scotman. I did visit that site and downloaded the brochure, which gives a very comprehensive list of different marks, but what I have doesn't match any of them properly.
I think we're going to have to visit an auctioneer to get some sort of definitive answer. I have a sneaky suspicion it's a fake hallmark, but still, at least I'll know. I have to say, I'm not holding out much hope of it being of any great value. ;-)
