I'm going to buy a new tv. I am not sure which brand to get, there is so much choice. A tv is just a tv to me. I have only the space for 42inch. could anyone recommend which type I should go for, or steer clear off.

Hi blackie,
might be a bit early to get feedback! We have a Hitachi, had no problems x
Don't buy the 'Shiney' black ones they are 'dust collectors!' (i clean for a living so trust me). I bought a 'Sony Bravia' with a 'Matt' finish.
What is your Max Budget ?
Spend wisely on a good brand which will last for years.
Personally I would buy LCD HD1080 TV.

morning, and thanks. price range for me is no more than 800, thats all I can afford at the min. I will remember the dust thing.
Go for Sony KDL40W4000 ! That is what I have got and cannot recommend it highly enough ! Ask Comet or Currys if they have it in stock.

Thanks Redman, Currys is my nearest store so would prob start looking in there. Them sales people do my head in, with their can I help you !! confuse me.
before you go check online for the best prices and don't be afraid to price match in store, also you can get ex display models cheaper
I bought a Panasonic TX-L37G10B three months ago and I am highly delighted with it. This is an LCD set with a Freesat tuner built in. I believe this type is also available in a 42inch as well. I bought mine from Amazon and their delivery is superb , Ordered on a Saturday and the set was here at 8.20 am on Tuesday morning. I went for a Panasonic on the recommendation of three friends who had also bought similar models and I have certainly not regretted it. Good luck
I have a 40" Panasonic Viera TV. The picture is absolutely superb even when not watching HD channel. I would recommend these. I also got a free 5 year warranty with mine. I paid around 1000 just under two years ago.
I might be a bit late in this answer but it is similar to the question I asked a while ago on this link

The article on the merits of both is really good and i suggest (if not too late) that you have a read of it.

Mum ended up getting a 32 inch LCD (Technika) from Tesco as I get discount and we are very happy with that.

It is shiney black though, but as I never dust I don't give a damn!!
