I need some advice from you good people please.

I clearly wasn't on the ball yesterday. We went to our vets to have some photos done of our dogs. We were told by our vet that he was booking the photographer in for that day (other people were using him ) and we were not obliged to buy any photos if we didn't want to. Thats fine we thought.

Anyway, got there, had photos done, were then told that it was £35.00 fee and this includes a small photo in a cardboard frame that would be ready in two weeks. I said that we did not know we had to pay any money but because we were put on the spot and the vet wasn;t around to ask them about it, we paid them by giving my partners credit card details. I know, I know, really stupid.

I have now been brewing since then and I am getting a bit angry. I wish to ring the photographer up and cancel the photo and ask for a refund, but where do I stand?
Any help would be appreciated.

If payment has changed hands, I imagine you don't have a leg to stand on. You would have been better refusing to pay. I would definitely make a complaint tho. And be prepared to take that complaint as far as you can.

......but surely the labourer is worthy of his hire. You may not have been obliged to buy extra photographs but the man's time had to be paid for by someone, I would have thought that was self-evident.

Complain to the vet. It looks as if he misled you, especially since he wasn't around when you were there. But I would also ask the photographer to say exactly what he had been told by the vet.

If you had photos taken they might be good ones. did you ever intend on buying any?

You should definitely have been told about the "fee" before you attended. I would complain to the vet, and see what happens.

Why did you assume that the photographer would take the photos for free?

Because we were not told about a fee. We assumed it was free.

another-view has a point, but I must say that I have been in situations in which a photographer has taken photos of me, but has said before he took them that there was no obligation to buy. Sometimes I did buy the prints, sometimes not, so those photographers were quite prepared to take pictures and not get paid.

Of course it wouldn't be free. He doesn't run a charity. You need to get out in the real world a bit more.

This is a difficult one. The vet told you that you weren't obliged to buy any photos if you didn't want to, but by paying the requested fee of your own free will, the photographer could argue that you paid up willingly.
I agree with Nomercy - speak to your vet and explain what happened, and cancel the card payment before it goes through.
On the other hand, you may be so delighted with the pic/s that you'll think it was money well spent!

It seems outrageous to me to have to pay a fee for him to take the photos, and then you have to pay more if you want to buy them??? Am I missing something here?

Call me heartless - but I can't understand why anyone wants a 'professional' photograph of their dog (or any other pet, especially a cat) anyway.

We used to take photos of our black lab Bruno - especially when he was all tranvestited up or in his smart collar, tie & sunglasses mode - but aren't ordinary phone, digital or film just as good, and cheaper?
