Ebay - overcharging on postage?

I know this is not a Chatterbank question but I didn't know where to stick it. [:o)

I have listed an item on Ebay with a postage charge of £5. I have just bagged it up and I realise it will go at small packet rate, and the postage is only £4.

I've wrapped it in bubble wrap and used a strong box. Is an extra pound postage acceptable, do you think? I suppose I could stick fifty pence in the box and explain I have miscalculated the postage costs.

Does the £4 include your costs for the actual packaging too - or simply the post?

You could justify the cost that way.

I believe e-bay are checking posts as regards costs so it might be worth a little ponder

Hang on a minute jno. Surely I can bag meself 50p for my box and bubble wrap? That only leaves an overcharge of 50p. (Okay, so my hubby got the box and wrap free from work - shame on me). [:o)

As long as your postage fee is clearly shown in your auction, bidders will bid their maximum taking it into account.

If they then whinge, tell them to s0d off :-)

sure, if that's what it'd cost your buyer (doesn't really matter what it costs you). Bubble wrap made of gold leaf? Box of finest mahogany?

I've bought stuff off ebay before, and felt miffed if I've been overcharged on postage. Would you all think a quid over the franked price iis acceptable? (Give it to me straight - I'll not be offended). [:o)

If the postage is stated, how can you complain about it, if you don`t want to pay it, don`t buy the item!!

Postage and Packing includes ...

price of the packing and bubble wrap (when hubbie's boss reads this, and asks him to divi up)

time engaged in cutting bubble wrap to size

further time engaged in popping bubbles on leftover bubble wrap

cost of selotape, including selotape wasted by twisting round fingers and sticking to itself

petrol to post office

hot water and cleaning materials to clean car after driving to post office through slush

electricity to run computer while asking postal cost question on ChatterBank

To be honest, Mrs C ... I would enclose an invoice for another £12.00
